Soccer clubs have provided competitive and recreational services to Westminster residents since 1979. In 2001, the City of Westminster entered into a relationship with two highly qualified coaches who created a club with the goal of providing high quality coaching to players of all levels, from Super League to Challenge. In 2006, the current Board authorized the formation of Westminster AFC, Inc., which now has over 40 teams in the club.
The current club is dedicated to the tradition of quality and excellence that have long been hallmarks of Westminster Soccer. The focus of the club is to provide top flight training and teaching of the skills and tactics of soccer; instilling a love for the game in the players; and creating a quality, enjoyable experience. As a direct result of our philosophy, the club has seen extraordinary growth over the past five years and has been identified as the fastest growing club in Colorado.
The club was the first in the northern metropolitan to guarantee regularly scheduled sessions with nationally qualified staff coaches. We have since established the WAFC Academy program for the development of players the year 8-10 age groups, instituted pre-season fitness camps, as well as winter and summer programs to maximize player development. Furthering these efforts the WAFC Academy has developed a cooperative program with the City of Westminster recreational program to work with players as young as year 3. WAFC provides player evaluations at the end of every season, and coaches are regularly reviewed to ensure that quality coaching for every player is provided, whether they play on a Super League team or on a Challenge team. We want to stay focused on our core values – the development and the best interest of the players comes first.
We are not content to remain where we are, though. The club is actively planning for the future, and is establishing programs to ensure the success and development of every player within the club.
The club is operated by a five person Board of Directors. Member input can be given directly to Board members or to members of the Board of Governors, who are charged with providing general direction and planning to the Directors. The governors will meet with Board of Directors and are charged with the responsibility of long-term planning, working on extraordinary projects, and identifying and meeting the club’s goals. Fundraising for the benefit of the club is performed under the direction of the Westminster Foundation.
We thank the commitment and support of parents, player, coaches and supporters who have made the vision of a topnotch club in North Denver a reality, and are looking to continued efforts to move the club forward.
